Wellington buzzed with excitement (or possibly bees) when Lab in a Box materialized outside of New Zealand’s national museum, Te Papa, on Sunday 7 May.
The blue metal wonder lab had arrived outside Aotearoa’s cultural headquarters to crank out learning and ideas for the Crazy & Ambitious meeting of the Biological Heritage National Science Challenge, which aims to reverse the decline of New Zealand’s biological heritage.
The curious sight had people questioning how and why a fully equipped science lab could fit into one blue standard issue railway container. Had funding reduced our scientific facilities to abandoned railway stock? On the contrary! The box soon opened and extended its shiny glass frontage to reveal a full scale cutting edge lab, ready to bring the science of honey bees and their mortal foes, wasps (boo!) to the general public! Talk about innovation!
Lab in a Box will be outside Te Papa until Wednesday 10 May in a joint operation with the Victoria University of Wellington, in conjunction with the Crazy and Ambitious Meeting. Stand by for more North Island action after that!
